FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team will target its 11th straight outdoor crown and its 22nd straight team title overall this week at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Oral Roberts hosts the three-day meet from May 10-12.
Since the Bison joined The Summit League prior to the 2008 season, there have been 21 league championship track & field meets. All 21 trophies have been captured by the Bison.
The Bison women own the longest active streak of outdoor titles in NCAA Division I. NDSU totaled a league record 335 points on the way to the team championship last year, winning by a 94-point margin over second-place South Dakota.
NDSU seniors Alexis Woods (400m dash), Piper Jensen (triple jump) and Alyssa Olin (javelin) will attempt to defend their individual crowns from 2017.
The Bison women enter the conference meet with the top performer in seven of the 21 events – Woods in the 400m, Olin in the javelin, Annika Rotvold in the 1500m, Courtney Pasiowitz in the shot put, Amanda Anderson in the discus, Maddy Nilles in the hammer throw, and the 4x400m relay.
In 18 of the 21 events, NDSU's top performer enters the league meet ranked among the top five. The Bison are poised for another dominant performance in the throwing events this year, entering the meet with the top seven performers in the javelin, the top six in the shot put, and four of the top five in both the discus and hammer.
Women's competition begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday, with the 10,000m moved to the morning to avoid excessive heat in the evening. At 10 a.m. on Thursday, the women's hammer throw and heptathlon 100m hurdles begin. Updates will be available on Twitter (@NDSUTrackField) throughout the meet and on GoBison.com at the conclusion of each day.
