FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team will send 19 entries to the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds held May 24-26 in Sacramento, Calif.
A total of 14 Bison women will participate, with sophomore Bailey Retzlaff competing in three events and senior Piper Jensen, junior Maddy Nilles and junior Shelby Gunnells appearing in two events.

How to Advance
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9.
In the hammer, javelin, discus, shot put, long jump and triple jump, all 48 competitors will receive a single round of three attempts. The top 12 marks overall advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 400m, the top three finishers from each heat plus the next six fastest times (24) will advance to the quarterfinals. The top three finishers from each quarterfinal heat plus the next three fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 1500m, the top five from each of four first-round heats, plus the next four fastest times advance to the quarterfinals (24). The top five finishers from both quarterfinal heats, plus the next two fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the pole vault, the top 12 athletes based on performance after tiebreakers and possibly a jump-off will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Among the Nation's Best
With 19 entries at the NCAA Preliminary Rounds, the North Dakota State women are tied for the 20th-most in the nation. BYU (24 entries) is the only non-Power 5 school with more entries than the Bison women.
Top Throws Program
The Bison women have a nation-best 14 entries in the throwing events at the NCAA Prelims, and no other women's team in the country has more than 10. The NDSU women and men combined for 23 entries in the throwing events at the NCAA Prelims to lead the nation.
Second-Most Ever
NDSU's 19 women's entries at the NCAA West Prelims are the second-most in the school's Division I era. The previous high for the Bison women was 21 in 2017.

The Bison women have captured 22 consecutive Summit League team titles – 11 indoor and 11 outdoor. NDSU has won every conference title since joining the league prior to the 2008 season.
