Olin Advances to NCAA Championships for 2nd Time

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – North Dakota State senior javelin thrower Alyssa Olin will be making her second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June, punching her ticket on Thursday at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
Olin uncorked a throw of 176-7 (53.83m) on her second of three attempts to finish with the second-best mark in the meet. The top 12 finishers advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 6-9.
Bison sophomore Bailey Retzlaff came up nine centimeters short of qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the shot put. Her throw of 52-06.75 (16.02m) finished 14th, missing the top 12 by two places.
Behind Retzlaff, NDSU had junior Shelby Gunnells finish 22nd at 51-02.25 (15.60m), senior Courtney Pasiowitz take 25th at 50-11.00 (15.52m), and sophomore Maggie Schwarzkopf place 38th with a mark of 48-07.25 (14.81m). Retzlaff and Gunnells both posted significant improvements over their pre-meet rankings in the shot put, with Retzlaff entering ranked 23rd and Gunnells ranked 29th.
Senior sprinter Alexis Woods advanced to Friday's national quarterfinals in the 400m dash, clocking a season-best 53.90 to place 23rd in the opening round.
Bison senior Kayla Hochhalter finished 27th in the javelin with a mark of 144-4 (43.99m), and freshman Kari Wolfe took 37th with a throw of 138-7 (42.24m).
Senior Piper Jensen placed 41st in the long jump at 18-05.75 (5.63m), ending her career ranked fourth all-time at NDSU.
Annika Rotvold finished 44th in the 1500m in her NCAA Prelims debut, running 4:35.51. She concludes her junior season ranked fourth in NDSU history in the event.
The NDSU women continue competition at the NCAA West Prelims on Friday, with Amanda Anderson, Maddy Nilles and Retzlaff in the discus, Lauren Gietzen in the pole vault, and Woods in the 400m quarterfinals.
