LAWRENCE, Kan. – The strongest and deepest squad of throwers in North Dakota State track & field history just keeps getting stronger and deeper. On Saturday at Kansas, freshman Michaela Hawkins (Roseville, Minn.) became the third active school record holder in the outdoor throwing events for the Bison women.

Hawkins threw 185-7 (56.56m) to break the NDSU discus record by four feet, surpassing former Bison All-American Katelyn Weimerskirch's 2017 mark. Hawkins also moved into the NCAA's Top 20 this year.

NDSU junior Amanda Anderson threw a career-best 179-7 (54.75m) in the discus as well, ranking 32nd in the nation this season.

School record holder Akealy Moton and Shelby Gunnells finished 1-2 in the shot put, with Moton winning at 57-7 (17.55m) and Gunnells second at 55-9 (16.99m).

Maddy Nilles threw an outdoor personal-best of 50-09.25 (15.47m) in the shot put, making it five Bison women surpassing 50 feet in the event this season. No other school in the nation has even four women beyond 50 feet.

Senior Klara Lyon cleared a season-best 12-11.75 (3.96m) in the pole vault, coming within one centimeter of her outdoor PR. Senior Jocelyn Dinius cleared an outdoor personal-best 12-6 (3.81m), ranking ninth all-time at NDSU.

Lexi Jordheim set a new pole vault personal-best and broke the 12-foot barrier for the first time, clearing 12-0 (3.66m) today.

Hurdler Ansley Schug clocked her best time ever in the 100m hurdles at 13.96, but the favorable wind was too strong for it to count officially in the record books.

Freshman Salmata Korgho clocked a personal-best 14.07 in the 100m hurdles, tying for ninth on the NDSU all-time list. Bailee Dierks ran a 100m hurdles personal-best of 14.16, ranking 10th all-time at NDSU.

Jennie Baragar-Petrash continued her standout 2021 campaign, running a personal-best 2:08.66 to win her section of the 800m, entering the NDSU outdoor all-time Top 10. With Annika Rotvold and Kelby Anderson running 2:14 and 2:15 in the 800m Saturday, NDSU now has 5 of the top 12 Summit League performers in the event this season.

Nell Graham was the top Bison finisher in the 400m dash at Kansas, taking third place in 56.48.

At the Ron Masanz Classic in Moorhead, Minn., unattached Bison freshman Kaci Cooper clocked 57.92 for her season debut in the 400m dash.
