TULSA, Okla. – The North Dakota State baseball team swept a doubleheader at Oral Roberts, 2-1, and 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
In game one, Oral Roberts (23-14, 8-4 Summit) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Joshua Cox reached on a fielding error to allow Jackson Loftin to score an unearned run.
Brock Anderson responded for NDSU (23-13, 11-4 Summit) in the third with a double down the left field line to send
Cadyn Schwabe across to lock the contest, 1-1.
Both teams then battled through three scoreless innings until NDSU was able to load up the bases in the seventh and
Garret Hill was hit by a pitch to send
Logan Williams home to make the score 2-1. The Bison held off the Golden Eagles the rest of the way to earn the 2-1 win.
NDSU posted six hits as a team with
Cadyn Schwabe setting the pace going 2-of-4 at the plate with one run.
Cade Feeney (5-2) earned the win firing five strikeouts with one walk and one run over 6.1 innings.
Skyler Riedinger added in one strikeout over 1.1 innings, while
Jake Drew closed out the final 1.1 innings and didn't allow a run or a hit. He picked up his sixth save of the season, which moves him into tied for ninth place on the NDSU all-time single season list.
In game two,
Charley Hesse sparked the Bison with an RBI double into left to score
Druw Sackett and make the score 1-0. NDSU then erupted for six run second inning to open up a 7-1 edge.
Will Busch and
Terrell Huggins started the frame each scoring on an error.
Garret Hill followed it up with an RBI single though the left side.
Brock Anderson and
Peter Brookshaw then each added RBI doubles before Hesse capped the big inning with an RBI single to left.
Following scoreless third and fourth innings, Huggins scored an unearned run on a wild pitch and Busch added another unearned run after a walk to increase the NDSU advantage to 9-1 in the fifth inning. The Bison went on to take the contest, 10-2, to earn the doubleheader sweep and win the series.
NDSU connected on 15 hits as a team with six different players contributing at least two. Sackett went 3-of-5 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Hesse also went 2-of-4 with two RBI.
Evan Sankey (4-3) picked up the win tossing three strikeouts over 6.0 innings.
Tristen Roehrich earned his fifth save of the season with three strikeouts over the final 3.0 innings.
NDSU will be back in action on Tuesday night against Valley City State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
