
4x400m Relay, Nilles Headline Day of Strong Performances for Bison Women’s Track & Field

STANFORD, Calif. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team strung together a number of impressive performances at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, capped by one of the fastest 4x400m relay quartets in school history.
Melissa Kitching, Morgan Milbrath, Rose Jackson and Alexis Woods ran 3:36.29 to earn runner-up honors in the meet and stand as the third-fastest 4x400m relay team in NDSU history. The Bison now rank among the top 15 schools in the NCAA in the event.
As has become the norm, the NDSU women's throwers posted several impressive marks on Saturday.
Freshman Maddy Nilles (Sherrill, Iowa) ranks third in NDSU history in the discus after throwing 158-3 (48.24m) for third place in the collegiate section. Nilles also improved her personal-best in the hammer throw to 173-5 (52.86m), ranking 10th all-time at NDSU.
Junior Katelyn Weimerskirch placed fifth in the invitational section of the discus. Her mark of 164-1 (50.02m) leads The Summit League this season.
Freshman Keyawna Larson (Kalispell, Mont.) entered the NDSU all-time Top 10 in the javelin at No. 4, throwing 146-10 (44.77m) to place second in the collegiate section of the event at Stanford.
Junior Jordyn Thornton took eighth in the hammer throw at 169-1 (51.53m). NDSU's Kelsey Laufenberg added a personal-best toss of 160-1 (48.80m).
Bison junior Amy Andrushko ran 2:08.56 in the 800m for the third-fastest outdoor 800m time of her career.
In addition to running on the 4x400m relay, Jackson and Milbrath had strong 200m dash times on Saturday. Jackson finished 11th in 24.56, and Milbrath placed 12th with 24.58. Both already ranked among the top six women in NDSU history in the event.
In an alternative meet hosted by San Francisco State, NDSU junior Lexy Boschee and freshman Dakota Wood finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100m hurdles. Boschee clocked 14.78 seconds for the fastest wind-legal time of her career, and Wood ran a season-best 14.88 seconds.
Sophomore Gabby Grommesh clocked 12.45 seconds in the 100m dash for ninth place at San Francisco State.
The Bison will compete next at the Husker Spring Invite in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, Apr. 9.
