NDSU Falls to UND in Summit League Opening Round, 6-5

FARGO, N.D. - No. 6 seed North Dakota rallied back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat No. 3 seed North Dakota State 6-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday, May 12, in the opening round of the Summit League Softball Championship presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare.
UND's Cassie Castenada drew a leadoff walk to start the 10th before pinch runner Caitlyn Shumaker advanced to second on a wild pitch, to third on an infield single by Chevelle Sartin, and beat a throw to the plate on a Mariah Peters ground ball to second base.
Jannay Jones retired NDSU in order in the bottom of the 10th to pick up the win. Jones limited NDSU to four hits in 6 2/3 innings of relief with four walks and one strikeout. NDSU's Paige Vargas pitched five innings of relief allowing four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
UND advanced to the quarterfinals of the Summit League tournament to face No. 2 seed Omaha. NDSU finished its season with a 16-29 record.
The Bison jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Madyson Camacho drew a leadoff walk and scored from first on a sac bunt by Stephanie Soriano and a UND throwing error. Montana DeCamp walked and later scored on a Ciara Jensen single to make it 2-0.
NDSU extended its lead in the third inning when Camacho led off with a single, moved to second on Soriano's sac bunt, and scored from second on DeCamp's bunt single. DeCamp was thrown out stealing before Avery Wysong's eighth home run of the year made it 4-0.
Jensen doubled to the wall in center field in the fourth inning and scored on a throwing error after Dez Cardenas singled to right field to make it 5-0. Jensen finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate.
