VanErp Wins Heptathlon, Thomsen Takes Shot Put as NDSU Men Finish 3rd in Team Race

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team finished third in a tight team race at the Summit League Indoor Championships on Saturday. South Dakota State won the team title with 173 points, South Dakota was second with 171, and the Bison men were third with 157 points.
 
NDSU claimed first place in two individual events on Saturday, with Eric VanErp winning the heptathlon and Kristoffer Thomsen taking the shot put.
 
VanErp scored a personal-best 5,091 points to win the heptathlon, moving up to eighth on the NDSU all-time list in the event. Thomsen threw a season-best 64-02.25 (19.56m) for first place in the shot put, and he climbed to No. 17 on the NCAA performance list this season.
 
The Bison men finished 1-2-4-5 in the Summit League shot put with Trevor Otterdahl second, Clayton Hannula fourth, and Levi Rockey fifth. Otterdahl was named the Championships Field MVP, scoring 18 points in the throwing events with his weight throw title from Friday.
 
The NDSU men recorded six runner-up finishes on Saturday.
 
Senior Cody Roder ran a personal-best 47.54 for second place in the 400m dash, ranking No. 2 on the NDSU all-time list. Josh Knutson (47.93) took third in the 400m.
 
The NDSU men were runner-up in the 4x400m relay, with Jacob Levin, Adrian Harris, Knutson and Roder running 3:12.43 to rank fifth-fastest in school history.
 
Brandon Lewis was second in the triple jump at 47-07.75 (14.52m). Jacob Rodin took runner-up honors in the 800m, finishing in 1:49.12. Trent Davis placed second in the 60m hurdles, clocking 8.02 in the final.
 
Zach McGlynn finished fourth in the heptathlon – scoring 4,812 in his first career attempt at the multi-events – and he took sixth in the high jump. Josh Darwin placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 6-06.25 (1.99m).
 
Bison freshman Logan Mathieu finished fifth in the 60m hurdles in 8.10. Dante White took seventh in the 60m dash in 6.88.
 
Symon Keiser finished sixth in the mile, running a personal-best 4:11.00. Jake Arason ran a personal-best 5000m time of 14:41.94 to take seventh place.
