2009 SEASON (JUNIOR): Went 3-5 with a 5.79 ERA in 13 games...Made five relief appearances before throwing a complete-game, five-hit shutout in his first collegiate start at Oakland...Got two wins against Western Illinois...Retired the only batter he faced to end a five-run ninth inning before the Bison won in the bottom half...Made his sixth start of the year two days later against WIU and got the win despite leaving the game when a line drive broke his jaw in the sixth inning...Named to the Summit League Winter/Spring All-Academic Team...2008 SEASON (SOPHOMORE): Made seven relief appearances with a 0-0 record and 11.81 ERA...Longest outing was two full innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Oral Roberts, where he had two strikeouts but gave up six runs on seven hits and walked two...HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated in 2005 from Totino-Grace High School in Fridley, Minn...Two-year starter and three-time letterman at pitcher and shortstop for coach Ned Thompson...Named all-conference as a senior and was an honorable mention to the Star Tribune all-state team...Also lettered in ice hockey...PERSONAL: Son of John and Catherine Ries of Shoreview...Oldest of three children...Has a brother, Jack, and a sister, Renee...Majoring in sport and urban turfgrass management...Greenskeeper at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course last summer.
