Biography

2010 SEASON (JUNIOR):  Started 36 of 39 games played...Hit .268 and was second on the team in slugging (.535), doubles (8), triples (4), homers (6), RBIs (31) and total bases (68)...Missed 11 games over a three-week span after a pitch broke his nose and eye socket at Western Illinois on April 11...That came one day after going 2-for-4 with five RBIs and a pair of home runs, including a grand slam for the final margin in a 14-2 win...Hit safely in his first four games back from the injury to cap a 10-game hitting streak...Reached base in 19 straight games...Led the team with 10 HBPs...Had another five-RBI game against Concordia Moorhead in May...Named as a Distinguished Scholar to the Summit League Winter/Spring All-Academic Team...JUNIOR COLLEGE: Two-year starter for coach Dan Fitzgerald at Des Moines Area Community College in Boone, Iowa...Hit .310 with 15 home runs and 52 RBIs in 93 games over two seasons...Third on the team with nine homers his sophomore year...Sixth on the team with a .344 batting average as a freshman...Part of two NJCAA Division II World Series teams that set school records for wins going 48-18 and 55-11...Was teammates with current NDSU players Tanner Adam and Mark Schroeder...HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated in 2007 from Chatfield High School...Four-year starting outfielder and pitcher for coach Brian Baum...Three-time all-conference and all-section performer...Named Section 1 Player of the Year as a junior and led Chatfield to the Class A state tournament...Hit .528 with seven home runs as a senior...Quarterback and captain of the football team his senior year...Also played running back and wide receiver in his three-year gridiron career, and was a two-time letterman in basketball as a point guard...PERSONAL: Son of Jay and Patti Obey of Chatfield, Minn...Has a younger brother, Mitchel, who is a junior outfielder at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa...Majoring in exercise science with a minor in health education.
