2011 SEASON (JUNIOR): Played in 45 games including 42 starts at catcher and one at DH...Hit .274 with 10 doubles and 23 RBIs...His only home run of the year off the left-field foul pole gave NDSU a 6-5 home win in the series opener with Centenary...It was the first of three straight game-winning hits during a six-game hitting streak...He added a two-out RBI double the next day against Centenary, and had a three-run pinch-hit double to break a 2-2 tie against Minnesota's closer...Made it four out of five with an RBI single in the 15th inning at South Dakota State...Named as a Distinguished Scholar to the Summit League Winter/Spring All-Academic Team and to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence...2010 SEASON (SOPHOMORE): Played in 42 of 52 games and made 33 starts, including six at catcher and 23 in the outfield...Fourth on the team with a .289 batting average...Had a six-game hitting streak on the Florida spring break trip, including a 4-for-6 game with two RBIs and three runs scored as the starting DH in the 19-7 win over Long Island...Went 4-for-8 in pinch-hitting opportunities, including a pair of singles, two RBIs and two runs scored in a 10-run ninth inning to beat Nebraska-Omaha 12-11...Hit .458 against left-handed pitching...Named as a Distinguished Scholar to the Summit League Winter/Spring All-Academic Team and to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence...2009 SEASON (HARDSHIP): Played the March 1 doubleheader at Wichita State before missing the rest of the season with a torn meniscus...Got a pinch-hit single to start the ninth inning of a 14-5 loss in the first game, then went 0-for-3 as the starting catcher in the nightcap...JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played the 2008 season for Ridgewater Community College in Willmar, Minn...Team was 35-7-1 overall and placed fourth at the NJCAA Division III World Series...Hit .400 (58-for-145) over 40 games...Had 14 extra-base hits including two home runs and drove in 42 runs...Made the World Series all-tournament team after hitting .533 with six RBIs in four games with a 2-2 record...HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated in 2007 from MACCRAY High School in Clara City, Minn...Three-year starting catcher and infielder for coaches Ron Lauer and Ted Perry...Career .443 hitter including a .490 average his junior year and .482 as a senior...Team MVP, conference MVP and Lions All-Star Game participant in 2007...Also a six-year starter and two-time state tournament qualifier in wrestling with 166 career wins...Three-year letterman in football as a kicker, wide receiver and defensive back...Academic all-state in wrestling...National Honor Society member...PERSONAL: Son of Harlen and Deena Steen of Raymond, Minn...Has one older brother, Trevor, and three older sisters, Terri, Jennifer and Janice...Terri played softball for the Bison for three seasons from 1991-93, Harlen wrestled at South Dakota State and Trevor competed in track and field at Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D...Majoring in health and physical education.
