LAWRENCE, Kan. - The North Dakota State softball team dropped a pair of games at the Jayhawk Invitational on Saturday, March 20, losing to tournament host Kansas 9-5 before falling to Tulsa 1-0 in the nightcap.
NDSU left fielder
Stephanie Soriano homered and drove in four runs against Kansas. Center fielder
Madyson Camacho was 3-for-4 with a stolen base and run scored, and second baseman
Skylar Padgett was 2-for-4.
Bison starter
Paige Vargas pitched all six innings against Kansas allowing seven earned runs on eight hits with eight walks and five strikeouts.
Kansas first baseman Morgyn Wynne doubled, homered and drove in four runs. Her three-run double and Ashlyn Anderson's two-run homer were part of a five-run first inning for the Jayhawks.
NDSU and Tulsa were scoreless into the seventh inning. The Golden Hurricane got a leadoff single from Aubree Seaney, pinch runner Kennedy Cramer moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sarah Briers, and Abby Jones singled in Cramer with the go-ahead run.
Kara O'Byrne pitched all seven innings for NDSU allowing four singles and one walk with six strikeouts.
North Dakota State (5-14) is scheduled to close out tournament play against Tulsa at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 21.
