Bison Return to Summit League Play Hosting Omaha Saturday & Sunday

THIS WEEK: The second-place North Dakota State softball team (12-21, 7-5 Summit) returns to Summit League play this weekend hosting a four-game series with Omaha (10-23, 4-8 Summit). The Bison and Mavericks will play two doubleheaders starting at noon Saturday, April 24, and 11 a.m. Sunday, April 25, at Tharaldson Park. Live stats will be available on BisonStats.com. Live video will be available to NDSU All Access subscribers on GoBison.com and the NDSU Athletics mobile app. Bison 1660 and 92.7 FM will have live coverage of Sunday's first game with Keith Brake on the call.
TICKETS & PARKING: All seating is general admission and tickets may be purchased at the gate on game day. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth ages 3-17. Parking is available in NDSU parking lot NQ to the north of Tharaldson Park on 17th Avenue. Attendees are strongly encouraged to wear masks.
THE SERIES: North Dakota State has a 39-27 lead in the all-time series with Omaha dating back to 1978. NDSU has won four straight including a three-game sweep in Fargo on April 26-27, 2019. The Bison won the series opener 8-1 before a pair of five-inning shutouts, 11-0 and 15-0. Omaha has not beaten NDSU in Fargo since a 5-0 win on May 11, 2001, in the NCAA Division II North Central Regional, but the Mavs are 3-5 in Summit League tournament games played in Fargo.
ABOUT OMAHA: The Mavericks are 10-23 overall after Wednesday's 3-2 home win over Creighton in 10 innings. Omaha is 4-8 in The Summit League after splitting a four-game home series with Western Illinois last weekend. Izzy Eltze leads the Mavs with a .351 batting average, Emily Klosterman enters the series on a nine-game hitting streak and has a team-high six doubles and 14 runs batted in. Klosterman and Lynsey Tucker (.277) each have eight stolen bases and Tucker leads the Mavs with 16 runs scored. Kamryn Meyer leads the Omaha pitching staff with 78.0 innings and 114 strikeouts in 20 appearances with a 4-8 record. Head coach Amanda Eberhart has a 26-78 record in her third year at Omaha. She was the head coach at IUPUI for four seasons with a 95-108 record including a Summit League championship game appearance against NDSU in 2016 before spending two years as an assistant at Purdue.
LAST WEEK: North Dakota State had two of its three scheduled home non-conference games with Iowa State canceled last weekend during a bye in the Summit League schedule. Friday's game was canceled, the Cyclones beat NDSU 10-4 on Saturday, and Sunday's game was tied 3-3 heading to the bottom of the second inning before snow and cold temperatures set in. Sam Koehn hit a two-run double and Avery Wysong blasted a two-run homer for the Bison in Saturday's loss.
SORIANO HITTING STREAK: OF Stephanie Soriano enters the weekend on a 13-game hitting streak and ranks second in The Summit League with a .398 batting average, 90 points higher than her previous career-best .308 as a junior in 2019. Soriano has reached base in 18 straight contests and has 31 hits over that span to raise her batting average to .398 from .216 entering the Jayhawk Invitational on March 19. She has nine multi-hit games over the first three weekends of league play and had a career-high four RBIs twice against Kansas and Western Illinois.

NDSU has the top two hitters in league play in OF Stephanie Soriano (.548) and OF Madyson Camacho (.481) while OF Emilee Buringa (.440) is sixth and INF Montana DeCamp (.439) is eighth in batting average. Soriano has a league-best 23 hits and DeCamp is tied for the league lead with five doubles and four sac bunts.
