VERMILLION, S.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team claimed three more event titles on the second day of the Summit League Outdoor Championships Friday. Junior
Brandon Lewis broke a 29-year-old meet record in the long jump and posted the second-best mark in NDSU history.
With 7 of the 21 events completed, NDSU tops the men's team standings with 124 points. South Dakota State stands in second with 88.
Lewis (Bismarck, N.D.) won the long jump with a leap of 25-06.00 (7.77m) to break a meet record that had stood since 1992. He also claimed the No. 2 spot all-time at NDSU and moved into the Top 30 in the NCAA this year.
Alex Talley won the shot put for his second event title of the meet, leading a Bison sweep of the top three places in the event.

Tony Ukkelberg scored a career-best 7,175 points to win the Summit League decathlon title, ranking eighth-best in school history and 30th in the NCAA this year.
The Bison men finished 1-2-3-6 in the shot put behind Talley.
Kristoffer Thomsen (63-03.50 / 19.29m) was second,
Maxwell Otterdahl (62-02.50 / 18.96m) took third, and
Trevor Otterdahl placed sixth.
Alex Bartholomay took second place in the 3000m steeplechase, running 9:04.29.
Isaac Huber clocked a personal-best 9:17.55 for fifth place, and
Payton Smith took seventh for NDSU.
The Bison men also finished 5-6-7 with three freshmen in the long jump behind
Brandon Lewis.
Hunter Merkley took fifth,
Dante White placed sixth, and
Koate Deebom finished seventh.
Eric VanErp (6,290 points) and
Tyler Enerson (6,148 points) both registered personal-best scores in the decathlon, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
In addition to the events that were completed on Friday, NDSU also advanced a strong number of qualifiers to Saturday's finals on the track.
In the 400m dash, four Bison qualified for the final –
Adrian Harris (47.65),
Darrien Lipscomb,
Cody Roder and
Jacob Levin.
The Bison sent three through to the 800m final with
Keiser Freetly (personal-best 1:51.63),
Jacob Rodin, and
Josh Samyn all advancing.
Lipscomb ran a personal-best 21.34 to advance to the 200m dash final and tie for eighth all-time at NDSU. Harris also qualified, running 21.51.
Trent Davis (14.14) was the fastest qualifier to the 110m hurdles final. White clocked a season-best 10.69 in the 100m dash prelims to advance to tomorrow's final.
Action resumes with field events at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Track events start at 12:20 p.m.
