2004-05 Season
Indoor Track & Field (Senior): Captured the 200-meter dash title at the Bison Classic... Dipped down to a 6.91 in the 60 at the Bison Classic... Member of 1,600 relay teams which took gold at the Bison Open, Panther Classic and Bison Classic...Part of quartet which broke the school record in the event at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational with a third-place 3:10.24... Outdoor Track & Field (Senior): Doubled in the sprints at the Division I Independent Championships with wins in the 100 (10.54) and the 200 (21.05)... Had six other solo wins during the season... Ran second leg of multiple meet winning 400-meter relay squads... Helped the relay to victories at the Bison Open, Mt. SAC, Howard Wood and the DI Independent Champs... Anchored the 800 relay to a school record time of 1:24.06 in a runner-up finish at the Drake Relays.Â
2003-04 Season (Junior): Won two short sprint titles and three 200-meter dash titles indoors... Ran a season best at the NCC championships to capture the 200-meter crown with a 21.60... Qualified for nationals in the 200 for the outdoor season after a victorious 20.69 at the NCC meet... Member of Drake Relay winning 800-meter relay team that ran a school record 1:24.21... Anchored the 1,600-meter relay squad which placed second at the NCAA outdoor meet.
2002-03 Season (Sophomore): NCC runner-up in the 60 and 200 meters indoors... Qualified for the indoor NCAA meet in the 60 but did not make the finals... Won conference outdoor titles in the 100 and 200 meters and anchored the NCC champion 400-meter relay unit that clocked a 40.95 to qualify for the NCAAs... All-American in the 100 meters with an eighth-place showing... Also qualified nationally in the 200.
2001-02 Season (Freshman): Competed for the University Nebraska-Kearney... Captured the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference indoor title in the 200 meters with a 21.98 and was second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.82... During the outdoor season, finished second in both the 100 meters (10.52) and 200 meters (21.29) in the RMAC... Claimed his All-America status with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters after posting a 21.25.
High School: Prepped at Overland High in Colorado where he ran track and played football... All-conference in the 100 meters and all-state in the 400- and 800-meter relays... Played wide receiver in football, making 45 catches for 850 yards in his career... College Football: Played wide receiver and returned kicks for the Bison... Caught 22 passes and five touchdowns in 2004... Led the 2003 team in receiving with 570 yards, an average of 51.8 yards per game... Played as a true freshman at Nebraska-Kearney where he set a school record for catches by a freshman (36)... Played six games as a sophomore at UNK before transferring at semester break to NDSU for track... Personal: Son of Mary Burrell... Majoring in criminal justice.
