Cross Country (Sophomore): Competed in two races for NDSU... Placed 25th at the Dragon Open (9/2) with a 28:49.87... Indoor Track & Field (Freshman): Ran the 800 through most of the year, placing third in the event at the Dakota Duals with a 1:56.74... Hit a 1:56.17 at Nebraska (2/4)... Outdoor Track & Field (Freshman): Ran a season-opening 1:55.28 in the 800 at Miami (4/18)... Placed third in the two-lap event at the Kip Janvrin Open with a 1:56.07 and seventh at the Division I independent championships with a 1:57.49.
2004-05 Season
Cross Country (Freshman): Ran twice for the NDSU cross country team... Placed 19th at the Jackrabbit Open in Brookings, S.D... Track & Field: Redshirt.
High School: Graduated from Perham (Minn.) High in 2004... Three-year letterwinner in cross country and track & field; two years in wrestling... School record holder in the 1,600 (4:26)... Also on record-holding 1,600 (3:26) and 3,200 (7:53) relays... The 3,200-meter relay also broke the conference record as well as captured the state title... Two-year captain of both the cross country and track & field teams... Personal: Son of Jodi Swanson and Mike Schmidt... Family includes an older sister... Majoring in public relations and advertising with a minor in marketing.
